Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Italy Sergey Nurtayev presented his credentials to the Director-General

of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Italian Republic Sergey Nurtayev presented his credentials to Dr. José Graziano da Silva, the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (UN FAO), accrediting him as the Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to FAO.

 

During the meeting that followed the credential ceremony at the FAO Head Quarters in Rome the Director-General congratulated the Ambassador/Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan on being accredited to FAO and wished success in the implementation of the mission.

 

Sergey Nurtayev thanked the Director-General for the support that Kazakhstan received from the Organization since its accession and offered the assistance of Kazakhstan’s experts to achieve the goals of the Organization. The Kazakhstan diplomat informed the interlocutor on the social and economic changes in Kazakhstan and the work of the International exhibition EXPO-2017, as well as introduced the priorities of the non-permanent membership of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the UN Security Council.

 

The Director-General of FAO highly appreciated the relations between Kazakhstan and the Organization and expressed hope for their further fruitful development. The parties discussed the perspectives for further development of relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and FAO.

FAO which was founded in 1945 is one of the largest specialized organizations of the UN system. There are a total of 197 members comprising 194 member nations, 1 member organization (European Union) and 2 associate members (Faroe Islands and Tokelau). The task of FAO is to ensure the supply of food to different parts of the world; improve the standard of living of the population; increase production and distribution of food and other agricultural products; improve the living conditions in rural areas; promote the development of the global economy, and fight hunger, which is an important problem for all mankind. The organization assists developing countries and countries with economies in transition to modernize and develop agriculture, forestry and fisheries, assists countries in the development of agricultural policies, legislation, national strategies for rural development and combat hunger, and promote the dissemination of knowledge through projects . Kazakhstan has been participating in the activities of this organization since 1997.
